What Are Spiritual Gifts?

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are only manisfestation. Thus every gift of the Holy Spirit is only for a particular time, reason or function. Immediately after that particular gift is utilised, the person will no longer possess that gift until he is once again gifted (most likely with a different gift for the need then).

Any gift given to a person is for the benefit of all, i.e., that it will benefit the gifted one and also all those that he ministers to. Thus, if a brethren who is going through testing of his faith and God wants to heal a sister, then He may give the gift of healing to him and immediately after his prayer, the sister recovers. This will strenghten his faith and the sister's too and along with all those present will rejoice in His faithfulness.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to individuals only and it is at the perogative of the Holy Spirit for God wants to benefit and strenghten the faith of the gifted one as well. Therefore, do not be arrogant when you are gifted with the gifts of the Holy Spirit for you are just a vessel for that particular gift. If the church needs guidance, then God will give a person the appropiate gift (word of wisdom or knowledge) to enlighten and guide the church.

I Cor. 12:12-27

12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body-- whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free-- and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many. 15 If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be? 20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." 22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 23 And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, 24 but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25 that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

  2. Ministries of the Lord (Christ);
  3. Appointments (Activities) by God.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are only manisfestation. Thus every gift of the Holy Spirit is only for a particular time, reason or function. Immediately after that particular gift is utilised, the person will no longer possess that gift until he is once again gifted (most likely with a different gift for the need then).

Any gift given to a person is for the benefit of all -meaning that it will benefit the gifted one and also all those that he ministers to.

Thus, if a brethren who is going through testing of his faith and God wants to heal a sister, then He may give the gift of healing to him and immediately after his prayer, the sister recovers. This will strenghten his faith and the sister's too and along with all those present will rejoice in His faithfulness.

The Ministries of Christ

These ministries were given to equip the saints (godly Christians) in the work and for the edifying of the body of Christ. Until they come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of Christ to a perfect man and to be Christ-like.

The 5 Ministries of Christ:

  1. Apostles;
  2. Prophets;
  3. Evangelists;
  4. Pastors;
  5. Teachers.

The Appointments by God

Whenever a new church is formed, God will appoint apostles, prophets, teachers, etc in the church for the spiritual growth of the sheep. He will choose anyone who is available for service as His servant.

All the above appointments of God are also annointed and empowered by God to carry out their duties and responsibilities for the benefit of the congregation (sheep). These are all servants of God.

They are similar to the annointed in the Old Testament. For whenever there were needs of prophets, priests or kings, God will appoint and annoint them. They are all expected to walk in love and to be transformed by obeying Jesus' commandments, in the ministries of Christ.
